U16 North Final 2008

Under 16A North Hurling Final - Nenagh Eire Og 2-13 Kilruane 2-10 - 4th Oct 2008

Our u/16 team produced their best performance of the year to win the north title against Kilruane in a great game played in Puckane last Saturday.

u16 north final

This game had everything- commitment, passion and skill displayed by both teams. Kilruane were first to score with a point from a free. However, Tommy Heffernan was very accurate from frees and with Cronan Gleeson scoring two points and Mark Tuite and Daire Quinn adding points Eire Og started to get on top. The first goal in the game was scored by Eire Og. Joe Geaney won possession in the half back line and his clearance went all the way to the net. At half time Eire Og led on a scoreline of 1-8 to Kilruane 0-5. A feature of the first half was the display of Sean Geaney at full back. He had great support from Donnacha Heffernan and Oisin Mc Glynn in the full back line. Kilruane had the aid of the breeze in the second half but found it hard to get scores. Eire Og went further ahead when a great move involving Tommy Heffernan and Daire Quinn resulted in the latter scoring a great goal. Eire Og were now seven points up but Kilruane reduced the lead almost immediately with a goal. Points by David Hickey and Mark Tuite increased Eire Og’s lead again but another goal by Kilruane saw the lead reduced to two points. However, the Eire Og lads were not going to be denied a North title. This team had lost at the semi final stage at under twelve and fourteen and were not going to be denied a third time. Playing with great skill and showing great determination the Eire Og lads finished very strongly. At the final whistle there was three points between the teams. Eire Og 2-13 Kilruane 2-10.

Well done to captain Kevin Kennedy who played very well. He was well assisted at midfield by Mark Tuite. Our half backs of Joe Geaney, Kevin Gubbins and Eddie Darcy worked very hard all through the game. The half forward line of Tommy Heffernan , Daire Quinn and Paul Slattery worked well as a unit and were ably assisted by Cronan Gleeson, Daryl Mc Cormack and David Hickey. Mark Higginbotham and Darragh Walsh who came on in the second half also played their part in a great victory. In addition to those who played in the final there are another seven lads who have trained very hard and are very much part of this team. They are Dean Ray, Andrew Weinmann, Paddy Sheehan, Niall Kennedy, Stephen Nagle, Bob O Brien and Adam Grattan.
